Which Hypogean hero should you ascend first?

Knox is the highest Hypogean priority to ascend first. Lucilla is also very important and she can work pretty well even at Mythic ascension. Knox is very strong on Cursed Realm and Nightmare Corridor. Zolrath and Mortas can be ascended via Challenger Store, but Mortas work great even at Elite ascension. Zolrath needs to be ascended because he needs his level 3 furniture to work properly. Serenmira is a good support and Kalthin is a great hypogean that can group up enemies. After ascending them, you may want to focus on ascending Khazard. But Khazard only needs Mythic ascension. Mehira is another hero that work great at lower ascensions (Mythic and Elite). Ezizh and Canisa & Ruke is a very flexible tank have been falling off, but they’re still useful heroes. Framton is very situational, so most F2P players will not need him. Olgath is only a very niche hero for Hypogean tower. Awakened Ezizh does his job pretty well at Legendary ascension. You don’t need to worry about getting more than one copy of him. Lucretia, Mezoth, Vyloris, Zikis, and Leofric are not worth it.

Do not invest on Lucretia, Mezoth, Vyloris, Zikis, and Leofric. The maximum investment you should put into these heroes is signature level 10 or 20, in case you have a lot of emblems left in your bag.
